FOTO FINISH: something old - alguna cosa vella

This is my entry for Foto Finish. Something old. There were so many things I was thinking of... the old thatched cottage next door, the castle in the village...
but I wanted something that I own (proudly own) and here it is, my fiddle.

Aqui teniu la meva entrada del Foto Finish: alguna cosa vella. Tenia unes quantes coses velles al cap, un cottage que hi ha aqui al costat, o el castell que hi ha al poble... pero volia alguna cosa que fos meva, i aqui esta, el meu violi. 

this photo is too blue...I know... but I kind of like the "blue mood" it has...

el blau d'aquesta foto es massa fort, ja ho se, pero m'agrada el toc que li dona...

It was my grandfather's, although he didn't play. It was badly damaged and I took it to a luthier who did a great job and I started learning how to play Irish trad. I think it is the oldest thing I have at home, it's from the 1880-90's, and I love it! its sound is beautiful (except when I'm playing it!)

Era del meu avi, pero ell no el tocava. Estava forc,a atrotinat i el vaig portar a un luthier perque l'arregles. El va deixar fantastic i vaig comenc,ar a aprendre a tocar musica irlandesa. Crec que es la cosa mes vella que tinc a casa, es d'entre el 1880 i 1890 i pico... i m'encanta, m'agrda el seu so (menys quan soc jo la que el toca!)

Burp Cloths as Gifts - Tovalloletes per a Nadons com a Regals

 I made some burp cloths for a friend of mine's twins. I normally used those big muslin ones (and they were great) but I always thought that it would be good to have something smaller and more practical.
These are simple and quick to make and they look really nice. I used terrycloth on one side and Alexander Henry's Goo Goo on the other side.

Vaig fer unes quantes "tovalloletes-per-glopades" (traduccio literal de l'angles! ha!) per als bessons

d'una amiga. Jo havia fet servir les grans de lli (que anaven be) pero sempre vaig pensar que alguna cosa mes petita seria tambe molt practica. Son molt facils i rapides de fer i queden molt maques. He fet servir tela de tovallola per una banda i tela de coto d'Alexander Henry (Goo Goo) a l'altra.

Ja he rebut la roba per un projecte que m'han demanat...!

Ahir vaig acabar de fer aquesta bossa. Crec que es la que mes m'agrada de totes les que he fet! La tela la vaig comprar a l'Ikea (en vaig comprar moltes...) i he fet servir una entretela bastant gruixuda de llenc,.

Podria haver fet servir una d'aquelles tanques magnetiques, pero aqui em cobren 6 euros per una... aixi que m'esperare a que me les portin de Barcelona, on m'han dit que van a 50 centims... Ara ja sabeu com de cares estan les coses aqui...

I finished making this bag yesterday. It's my favourite from all the ones I've made so far. I used fabric that I bought in Ikea and I used canvas interfacing. I could have placed a magnetic snap but here they cost 6 euros each, so I'm waiting for a few coming from Barcelona where they're only 50 cents each! Yep, things are expensive here...

I also found another version of a pleated purse here, I think it looks nice as well.

Hi ha dues butxaques laterals interiors, dividides amb un repunt. Aixo es el que mes m'agrada, aixi tinc les claus, el mobil, els mocadors i tot allo petit ben recollit.

There is an inside pocket on either side of the lining and they're divided by a seam. That's what I like about it, so I have my keys, mobile phone, tissues and all things small tucked together.


Ara mateix aixo es el que estic fent, mitjons per a la Hana. Com que l'altre dia ens van tallar l'electricitat (i ho tornaran a fer aquesta setmana que ve), no podia cosir amb la maquina, aixi que vaig agafar una de les llanes que vaig guanyar i he comenc,at a fer aquests mitjons. Hi ha molts tutorials per fer mitjons, pero costen una mica d'entendre si mai no n'has fet perque no hi ha fotos de cada pas. Estic preparant un tutorial amb moltes fotos per ensenyar com es fan.

This is what I'm working on right now. hey cut off our electricity last week and I couldn't use my sewing machine, so I took one of the skeins I won a few weeks ago and started to knit a pair of socks for Hana. There are many tutorials on the internet but it's hard to make them if you've never knitted socks before because they don't show you photos of every step. I am preparing a tutorial with lots of photos at the moment to teach how to knit socks.

I per acabar, aquest es un vestit coixinera que em van encarregar fa temps i per fi la seva propietaria ja el te a les mans (o posat!). Quan el vaig acabar el tenia penjat al taller i l'anava mirant, pensant que mes li podria afegir: un aplicat, una flor, brodat...?  pero al final vaig pensar que seria millor deixar-lo aixi, senzill i fresquet.

And last, but not least, they commissioned me a pillowcase-dress a while ago and finally it is in its owners hands. When I  finished it I had it hanging on the wall and I kept looking at it thinking if I whould add something else to it: maybe some appliquee, a flower or some embroidery... ? But at the end I thought it was best to leave it as it is, simple and fresh.

Ja he acabat el quilt de paret i a hores d'ara deu estar volant cap a Catalunya. He fet un encoixinat lliure amb corves, com l'ultim que vaig fer. Encara estic practicant i ja ho tinc mes o menys dominat.

I have finished the wall hanging and right now it must be flying to Catalonia. I used free motion again, as I am still practicing and getting much better at it.

Despres de la setmana de sortejos de Sew Mama Sew torna la calma, i la feina al taller continua. Estic contenta perque la llista inacabable de "coses per acabar" s'esta escurc,ant i aixo em fa sentir be perque vol dir que puc comenc,ar nous projectes!

After the busy week of Sew Mama Sew, everything is calm here and we can go back to work. I am finishing a lot of projects from my "things to finish"  list and that makes me feel soooo good! because that means I can start new ones.

quina alegria quan vaig rebre el primer email dient-me que habia guanyat, pero despres hi van seguir 3 mes! al menys aquest cop jo tambe vaig poder donar dos premis, un se'n anira cap a Anglaterra i l'altre cap a Qatar.

I was so happy when I received the first email telling my I was a winner, and then 3 more came in...! It was great to be able to participate this time and to give away some of my crafts too, one is going to England and the other to Qatar.

Doncs be, aqui teniu el que estic acabant ara mateix, un quilt per penjar a la pared. Es un regal d'aniversari (com sempre vaig tard) per una moooolt bona amiga. Esta fet amb retalls, m'agrada molt aquesta tecnica, i com que se que a la meva amiga li va agradar molt el quilt de retalls, vaig pensar fer-li un amb els mateixos retalls (encara em que daven un munt). Aquesta nit mentres la petita dorm, m'apalancare al sofa a cosir-hi la beta. Mes fotos del producte acabat dema!

So here is what I'm finishing, a wall hanging. It's made out of scraps. It's a belated birthday present for a good friend of mine who liked my scrappy quilt. I thought she would like something made with them same scraps. It's already quilted and tonight, while the little one sleeps, I'll be curled up in the sofa binding it. More photos f the finished product tomorrow!

democracy? democracia?

It is not my intention to post about anything other than crafts and hobbies in my blog and it will remain like this after this post. I just could not let this go by.

Hundreds of people in Barcelona, my hometown, as well as in other cities in Spain have been peacefully demonstrating against the government's political action which is very very far from what it claims to be a democracy.

I want to show you how the police forces tried to evict the protesters yesterday, who emphasised their non violent way of demonstrating by just sitting down and be out in the streets to ask for what it should be real democracy.

What I found most horrifying is this. What excuse is there to have a go at a disabled person???

I cannot do anything from here, I'm really annoyed about it, but the only thing I can do is to show what is happening so there is more people aware of it.
